Sturgis Pretzel House
In 1850, Julius Sturgis was baking bread at a gracious stone house in Lititz, Pennsylvania.
Legend has it, a man passing through Lititz gave Julius the recipe for hard pretzels in return for his generous hospitality. He added pretzels to his bread business, and in 1861 Julius stopped making bread and became the first commercial pretzel bakery in America.
